This is a new SMP4001-compatible programmer that I have designed and manufactured to replace the now unobtainable original Maxon programmer.

Every unit is hand assembled, individually tested and supplied ready to use.

Ideal For
This programmer is intended for owners and service engineers working with compatible Maxon radios and can be used for:

Programming compatible Maxon radios.
Reconfiguring compatible UHF radios for PMR446 operation (where legally permitted).
Reconfiguring compatible VHF V2 radios for 2 metre Amateur Radio use (where supported by the radio hardware).
Reading, modifying and saving radio codeplugs.
Offering a programming service to other Maxon radio owners.
As original programmers have become almost impossible to obtain, there is increasing demand from amateur radio operators and radio enthusiasts for a reliable replacement.

Why This Programmer?
Many people are now forced to remove EEPROM or memory ICs from their radios and program them using external chip programmers because they cannot obtain a working SMP4001 interface.

This programmer allows compatible radios to be programmed through the normal programming connector, eliminating the need to remove components from the radio.

Compatibility
The SMP4001 system was originally designed to operate with computers fitted with a genuine RS-232 serial (COM) port.

This programmer has been thoroughly tested using a PC with a real hardware serial port.

While some users have managed to use USB-to-Serial adapters with DOSBox or DOSBox-X, compatibility depends entirely on the USB chipset, drivers and software configuration.

For this reason, operation with USB-to-Serial adapters cannot be guaranteed.

If you have a computer with a genuine RS-232 COM port, you should have no compatibility issues.
